description: Define a B2B ICP tight enough to write one email to, and build the named account list. Use before any outbound.
---

Build an ICP you can act on today.

1. **Three dimensions:** company (size, sector, stage), role (the person who feels the pain, and the person who signs — often different), and trigger event (what makes this urgent now).
2. **Start from who already pays.** If there are existing customers, pull them — size, stack, how they found you. The ICP describes them, not an aspiration. If there are none, mark it a hypothesis.
3. **The test:** name twenty companies that fit, sourced from somewhere real — job boards, your own signup domains, forum posts, changelogs. Say where each came from. If you cannot find twenty, the ICP is too broad; do not invent them to hit the number. If you can't, the ICP is still too broad. Do this before writing any copy.
3. **Build the list** — twenty named accounts with the specific person at each, and the trigger you think applies.
4. **Disqualify explicitly.** Who is *not* the ICP, so time doesn't leak into bad-fit conversations.
5. Write to `03-b2b/icp.md`.
