Repeat Value

Build the next useful action into the product

Tonight we define the product's natural usage rhythm, compare the behaviors of retained and slipping customers and build one path back to the core action. We measure the value created—and the annoyance or friction the intervention could add.

Dates TBD — evening workshops at Workuity Biltmore. Join Discord or follow the Meetup calendar for the next cohort.

Or join the waitlist — the dates come to you.

Venue sponsor: Workuity. Format: the host builds live on screen. Bring a laptop and work along, or just watch — nobody is put on the spot.

Why this session

More clicks, sessions or time spent do not automatically mean a healthier product. Engagement is useful only when it describes value a customer has reason to repeat.

What we cover

  1. 01

    Define an active customer

Choose the behavior and time window that match the product's natural usage frequency rather than defaulting to DAU or MAU.

  2. 02

    Frequency, depth and breadth

Decide which dimensions signal value for this product and which are vanity or even signs of friction.

  3. 03

    Find the retained behavior

Compare feature adoption and action sequences for retained and slipping cohorts without confusing correlation for causation.

  4. 04

    Build the engagement view

Track the core action, supporting feature adoption and the segment that should reasonably perform each behavior.

  5. 05

    Design the next-value path

Use empty states, progress, templates, collaboration or triggered guidance to make the next useful action obvious.

  6. 06

    Add a trust guardrail

Measure dismissals, errors, unwanted notifications or other costs that could make the engagement number rise while the experience gets worse.

You leave with

A product-specific active-use definition, a feature-adoption view and one in-product or lifecycle intervention tied to repeat value.

To follow along

A laptop, the instrumented product and access to product analytics or the supplied dataset. Bring one feature you believe should drive repeat use.

Afterward

Nothing is required. It compounds if you run the same work on your own product. The suggested output:

03-engagement/ — active-use definition, adoption view, retained-behavior analysis and the next-value intervention.
